Use Plot in Claude Code

Install the Plot plugin or MCP server in Claude Code to read tasks, update status, and leave progress comments while you code.

Connect Plot to Claude Code and keep your tasks up to date while you work. Claude Code can read a task before it starts, move it forward, leave comments with progress and verification notes, and write plans as Plot documents.

There are two ways to connect: the Plot plugin, or the Plot MCP server on its own. The plugin also installs a skill that teaches Claude Code how to work in Plot, so we recommend it.

Prefer the command line? The Plot CLI works with Claude Code too.

Before you start

You need:

  • Claude Code installed and up to date.
  • A Plot account with access to the workspace you want to connect.

Install the Plot plugin

In Claude Code, run:

/plugin marketplace add plot-hq/agent-plugins
/plugin install plot@plot

Or, from your shell:

claude plugin marketplace add plot-hq/agent-plugins
claude plugin install plot@plot

Then run /mcp, select plugin:plot:plot, and sign in. In the Plot window, choose your workspace and select Authorize.

Add the MCP server manually

To add only the server, run:

claude mcp add --transport http plot https://mcp.plot.app/mcp

Start claude, run /mcp, select plot, and sign in.

What Claude Code can do in Plot

Once connected, Claude Code can:

  • Read a task, its comments, and its project before it starts work.
  • Update task status, assignees, labels, and dependencies.
  • Create task trees for a plan, with subtasks and dependencies.
  • Leave comments with progress, blockers, and handoff notes.
  • Create documents for plans, briefs, and decisions.

Disconnect Plot

If you installed the plugin, run:

claude plugin uninstall plot@plot

If you added the server manually, run:

claude mcp remove plot

Troubleshoot

The /plugin or claude mcp command isn't recognized

Update Claude Code to the latest version, then try again.

The server shows in /mcp but Plot tools aren't available

Start a new Claude Code session. Claude Code loads MCP servers when a session starts.

The server shows "Needs authentication"

Run /mcp, select the Plot server, and sign in again. This also happens when a connection reaches its 30-day limit.
